Report: Chris Holtmann agrees in principle to become DePaul's next head men's basketball coach
It didn’t take long for former Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball coach Chris Holtmann to find a new coaching home. According to a recent report courtesy of college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Holtmann has agreed in principle to become the next head coach of DePaul men’s basketball.
DePaul had an abysmal 2023-24 campaign, finishing the year 3-29. Their season was finally put to an end in the Big East tournament after a narrow one-point 58-57 loss to the No. 6 Seed Villanova Wildcats.
DePaul, like Ohio State, has been without a head coach for a portion of this season. The Blue Demons parted ways with former head coach Tony Stubblefield midway through January after going 3-15 on the season and 0-7 in the conference. Ironically, those three wins under Stubblefield were the only wins for DePaul this season.

ESPN Pete Thamel also chimed in on Holtmann’s new principle agreement with the Blue Demons, revealing the length of the deal, according to sources. Thamel also divulged what made this union ideal in the minds of both parties.
“Holtmann has agreed to a 6-year deal, per a source. DePaul presented a strong offer of support and valued his track record as a high-end Big East coach,” said Thamel via X.
