Salem (N.J.) St. Joseph’s Prep four-star linebacker Cam Smith has committed to Duke, he announced on Thursday afternoon.

He chose the Blue Devils over the likes of Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland and West Virginia. He also held offers from Michigan, Texas A&M, Wisconsin and more.

Smith is the No. 150 overall prospect and No. 16 LB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 player in Pennsylvania.

On3 ranks Smith higher than other recruiting services. He checks in as the No. 60 recruit, No. 10 LB and No. 1 player in New Jersey in the 2025 On300.

Smith is the second player to join Duke’s 2025 class, flanking Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph Regional safety Ma’khi Jones. The addition of the 6-foot, 200-pounder is a major win on the recruiting trail for Manny Diaz and the new crew in Durham.

Blue Devils vying for momentum on recruiting trail

Earlier on Thursday, Duke also made the top five for Smith’s St. Joseph’s Prep teammate, four-star linebacker Anthony Sacca. He had this to say regarding what interests him about the ACC program:

“Their defensive line coach and special teams coordinator, Gabe Infante, was actually the head coach at my previous high school and he was at Penn State for a while,” Sacca told On3. “I’ve had a relationship with him for quite some time. I haven’t been out there yet. They’re kind of a newcomer as well, but I’ve been very familiar with (head) coach (Manny Diaz), as he was my recruiter up at Penn State. We’ve had a great relationship over these last couple of years. With the way they talk to me, I think I’m going to give them a look.”

Duke signed 16 prospects in the 2024 cycle as it dealt with the exit of head coach Mike Elko. The class ranks just No. 60 in the nation and No. 14 in the ACC, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Headlining the class is Hiram (Ga.) three-star wide receiver Chase Tyler, the No. 516 recruit and No. 80 WR in the cycle. Other top signees in the class include Upland (Calif.) three-star cornerback Kyren Condoll, Chattanooga (Tenn.) Red Bank three-star EDGE Kobe Smith, Pfafftown (N.C.) Reagan three-star safety Landan Callahan and Newnan (Ga.) Woodward Academy three-star interior offensive lineman Bradley Smith.
