Caleb Foster, 2023 5-star, commits to Duke
Caleb Foster, a 6-foot-5 point guard out of Charlotte (N.C.) Oak Hill Academy has committed to Duke basketball for the class of 2023, he tells On3.
Foster is the Blue Devils’ first commitment of the 2023 class. Duke is also targeting JJ Taylor, Mackenzie Mgbako, and GG Jackson.
Foster decided to stay close to home and play for Duke over Auburn, Virginia, Stanford, Wake Forest, Louisville, Clemson, among others.
What does this commitment mean for Duke?
Some fans might worry about an early commitment like this, considering Foster still has two years of high school left. In fact, Foster is the first ranked prospect to announce a college commitment in the entire class of 2023. But rest assured, I think Duke’s staff feels confident about this verbal commitment. Foster, who was born and raised in Charlotte, grew up a Duke fan. Only a couple of hours away from Durham, Foster dreamed of playing for Duke basketball.

Duke prioritized Caleb Foster, as he is the only point guard in the 2023 class with an offer. Foster visited Duke earlier this month, and Scheyer and Co. sealed the deal.
It’s too early to predict what Duke’s roster and starting lineup will look like two years from now. Regardless, the Blue Devils are getting a talented and intelligent point guard, who can score at all three levels. Standing at 6-foot-5, Foster has good size for his position. Foster’s best skill might be his ability to score the basketball. He won’t wow you with his athleticism off the bounce, but still has the ability to blow by defenders with his craftiness. Foster is one of the best point guards in his class, with nothing but time to polish his game before he gets to Durham.
