Caleb Foster injury update: Jon Scheyer announces Duke guard to miss remainder of season
Ahead of the Duke Blue Devils opening round matchup against Vermont, head coach Jon Scheyer provided an injury update for young, talented guard Caleb Foster. According to the Duke men’s basketball X page, Scheyer announced that Foster will not return during the tournament and will be out for the remainder of the season. The Blue Devils head coach also revealed that the injury that has sidelined him for quite some time was a stress fracture of the ankle.
“Caleb Foster is going to be done for the season. My heart breaks for Caleb because Caleb has done literally everything you could ask from a guy who has an injury and trying to get back out there,” said Scheyer. “We have gone through multiple second opinions. He tried to practice earlier this week. He wasn’t able to really be himself. And so he’s going to be out. He has a stress fracture in his ankle, and it’s a unique injury. And so we’ll be missing him.
“But everybody else needs to step up, and we have to get Caleb healthy and taken care of, but we want to share that before we get started with the rest of our team.”
Foster’s last appearance on the court this season was during the Blue Devils’ road loss to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. In that game, the Duke freshman scored eight points, had three rebounds, and one assist while connecting on two of his three attempts from downtown in 22 minutes of action.
Foster was putting together a solid freshman campaign for Scheyer’s Blue Devils, but unfortunately, that has all come to an end. His first season on campus ended with him averaging 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 21 games with fifteen starts.
