Chris Pollard on Duke's comeback chances down 5-0, Blue Devils' bats against UVA's Brian Edgington
Chris Pollard believes in his team, and thinks that they can make a comeback against Virginia as they sit down 5-0 currently.
The Duke skipper joined the ESPN broadcast to elaborate on his thoughts during the game, where he explained that the Blue Devils knew the Cavaliers were going to get their share of the pie, and how Pollard’s team can get their bats going.
“Well we talked this morning, and we talked right before the game, about the fact that we were going to have to take a punch from these guys, and the crowd was going to get into it,” stated Pollard. “Obviously we got that there in the second. I thought Charlie [Beilenson] executed some really well pitches. We got the double-play ground ball about three different times. The first two times it just wasn’t at somebody. But he kept pitching. We finally got off the field. That was the punch, and now we’ve just got to settle in and play. We’ve got to compete.
“We got the leadoff man on there, but we’ve got to do a better job behind him. But [Brian] Edgington is throwing the ball real well. He’s got that split-finger working, and it’s giving us fits.”

As for the aforementioned Edgington, he’s keeping Duke at-bay, only allowing three hits thus far. That split-finger is something Pollard has on his mind, and he believes the Blue Devils have to do a better job against it.
“We’ve got to do a better job with that pitch,” stated Pollard. “We’ve got to see it up a little better. You know, it’s just right now we’re not recognizing it very well out of his hand. That’s a credit to him. When he pitched against us here at the end of April, we saw that pitch a little better. But he’s done a good job of burying it.”
While the Blue Devils are sitting down by five runs at the moment, all it takes is one big inning. Chris Pollard believes it’s coming, but time will tell if Duke can get out of their rut.
