Although he’s just now in his first season as Duke‘s head football coach, Mike Elko has already built a relationship with legendary Blue Devils’ head men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.

As Coach K – who has been Duke’s head man since 1980 – will coach his final home game at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday when the Blue Devils take on longtime rival North Carolina in their ACC regular season finale, it’s not surprising that Elko will be in attendance for the big game.

Joining a SiriusXM college sports show on Tuesday, Elko was asked if he’d be at Cameron Indoor Stadium for Coach K’s final home game – and he shared that he planned to be there before he was even officially hired by the school.

“That was part of my [contract] negotiations – to make sure I got a seat for that game,” Elko said. “I will be in the building Saturday. I think that’s going to be an amazing environment and just an amazing game just to be part of.

“I don’t think you can quantify in words what Coach K has meant to Duke University or to the Durham community. You can’t even explain the impact they’ve had on this program, this university and this community.”

Elko proceeded to discuss his relationship with Krzyzewski, saying that the two have had a chance to get to know each other and he’d like to learn from Coach K once he is officially retired from coaching.

“He and I got to visit a little bit,” Elko said. “I got the chance to go over and meet with him – I was on his podcast. But obviously with them being in season and trying to chase a championship and me doing what I’m doing over here, I do look forward to the spring when things settle down a little bit because what an amazing resource to try to lean on – in terms of help and guidance and how to build a program at Duke.”

Ticket prices skyrocketing to all-time high for Coach K’s final home game at Duke

In what’ll mark legendary Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final home game as the Blue Devils’ leader, Cameron Indoor Stadium will undoubtedly have an electric atmosphere on Saturday – and the ticket prices reflect that.

According to Front Office Sports, the current ticket price just to get inside Cameron Indoor Stadium for Duke vs. North Carolina is $3,690, while the average ticket price is $5,392. As Front Office Sports points out, the game is trending towards being the highest-selling game between the two teams in the history of StubHub.

Duke and North Carolina are scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN. The network’s College GameDay show will also be on the scene Saturday for their pregame and halftime shows to capture the special day for Coach K.
