Duke running back Al Wooten II entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Wooten previously played at Mercer before the Blue Devils.

In his lone season with Duke, Wooten played in just four games. He logged two carries for a yard. Wooten had his best production come at Mercer, especially in 2022 and ’23.

In the 2023 season, Wooten set career highs rushing. He ran 152 times for 715 yards, six touchdowns and 4.7 yards per carry.

As a member of the Class of 2020, Wooten was a three-star recruit out of Memphis (Tenn.) Christian Brothers, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 62 overall prospect in the state, the No. 159 running back in the class and the No. 2,005 overall prospect in the class.

Al Wooten II latest Duke player to enter portal

Wooten was the latest player to enter the portal, leaving the Duke football program. Offensive tackle James Pogorelc entered last month.

Pogorelc played in all 12 of Duke’s regular season games last season. He joined the Blue Devils with limited experience. He only saw action in 12 games, including two starts, during his four seasons at Stanford. In total, Pogorelc logged 114 snaps with the Cardinal.

Pogorelc played high school football at Chantilly (VA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 312 overall player and the No. 33 offensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Duke had one of the best offensive lines in the nation last season. The Blue Devils only allowed 12 sacks in 2024, the eighth-least in the country. Pogorelc was a cornerstone of Duke’s offensive front.
