Duke is back on the national stage once again, facing off against Kansas in the Champions Classic. It’s the first big game for not only head coach Jon Scheyer but also their impressive 2022 recruiting class. Kyle Filipowski was a crucial member and is already showing why he was so highly ranked.

Down heading out back from the halftime break, Duke has mounted a comeback early in the second half. It’s been an impressive run for the Blue Devils and one that was capped off by a major dunk from Filipowski. Faking the dribble handoff, the freshman blew by a Kansas defender before throwing it down on two players.

Kansas was forced to call timeout shortly thereafter, needing to slow down the Duke momentum. A high-stakes game is seeing Filipowski show out in an impressive way.

Possibly even more impressive than the dunk — if Filipowski can grab a few more rebounds, he will have his third consecutive double-double. No freshman at Duke has ever been able to accomplish that according to the ESPN broadcast. Scheyer has an impressive young player on his hands.

More on Kyle Filipowski

The On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services, ranked Filipowski a five-star prospect. He was the No. 5 overall ranked player in the 2022 class and part of Duke’s No. 1 class.

Filipowski was one of three players to sign with the Blue Devils ranked inside the top 5, joining Dereck Lively II and Dariq Whitehead. While the latter is not playing on Tuesday night, it’s going to be a special class in Durham that will fold out in front of our eyes.

Getting a win against Kansas early on would be a solid way to get the season rolling.
