Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball coach Jon Scheyer is preparing for a second season leading the program. During a recent interview on 99.9 The Fan, the Blue Devils headman discussed how their offseason is going so far. But there was another topic Scheyer addressed during his interview: Conference realignment. Scheyer gave his take on the sweeping changes happening throughout college sports and whether there are any nerves when contemplating the future pf Dukes’ home conference of the ACC.

“As far as the ACC goes, or you mentioned nerves, I found very quickly from my first day when I was named head coach; the amount of change in college basketball college athletics at this point, it’s par for the course,” said Scheyer. “And I’ve realized you have to be very flexible, adaptable, and really, I think we’re secure and solid for right now. But I don’t think you can say what the future holds. For us, just continue to take care of business by doing what we’re doing. And we’ll see what the future holds. But in the moment, it’s not about nerves or anything else because you can’t control it. There’s really nothing you can do to control it.”

Conference realignment is the buzz phrase flying around college athletics currently. Recently, the Pac-12 conference was reduced to just four participating universities. And that has led many to wonder about the landscape of college athletics. As it currently stands, the ACC is alive and well despite the rumblings coming out of Florida State. As for Scheyer, he’s not going to worry about anything that’s out of his control. Instead, he will put his focus on bringing the men’s college basketball national title back to Duke in 2024.

2025 On3 No. 1 recruit Cooper Flagg visits Duke

The start of the 2023-2024 college basketball season is quickly approaching. And while Scheyer is preparing his current crop of players for the year, he is keeping a sharp eye on the not-so-distant future. And that is why the Blue Devils recently set up an audience with one of the nation’s top recruits. Montverde Academy (Fla.) five-star small forward Cooper Flagg took an unofficial visit to Duke earlier in August.

The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
