Jon Scheyer previews Duke-North Carolina game on College GameDay
Duke (16-6) takes on North Carolina (15-7) in a classic college basketball rivalry. Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer previewed the contest with the ESPN College GameDay crew Saturday.
“I’m really thinking about the start of the game and what we need to do in order to win and I promise myself every time we walk out, I’ll always soak it in and enjoy the fans,” Scheyer said to ESPN’s Jay Bilas during the show.
Ahead of the game Saturday, Scheyer revealed what he told his Duke team regarding the rivalry with the Tar Heels.
“Just that we’re in this together,” Scheyer said. “This group has been through a lot already, a lot of adversity, one of the youngest Duke teams in history and every step of the way, I want them to feel a great connection to what we’re doing and do this thing together.”
There was a pretty simple key for Scheyer and Duke to beat North Carolina. Simply execute.
“I want them to think about what they need to do when they’re on the floor,” Scheyer said. “They’re gonna be ready to play. They’re gonna feel this amazing energy. (there are) amazing signs. Really cool stuff. Just be focused on your job. What you have to do and play together. Really no different than any other game in terms of that.”

Jeremy Roach is back for the Blue Devils, a welcomed addition to the lineup after he missed a few games due to injury.
“Jeremy has been huge for really all year long,” Scheyer said. “The fact that he’s been through it before, he’s playing really instinctively wants to attack and get into attack mode, being aggressive, whether that’s for him or to make plays for others.”
Ahead of the game, Tar Heels coach Hubert Davis knew it was going to be a challenge with the way Duke rebounded the ball.
“Rebounding will be very important,” Davis said. “They’re playing with a lot of confidence. Every Duke team, they play with a sense of toughness and physicality. Then on the offensive end, Filipowski’s special. … It’ll be a competitive test for us, but that’s something that we always like and always enjoy.”
Duke and North Carolina tip-off at 6:30 p.m. ET. on ESPN at Cameron Indoor.
