Jon Scheyer provides injury update on five-star freshman Dariq Whitehead
As the new head coach of the Duke basketball team, Jon Scheyer was always going to have to deal with adversity. That struck early this season with the injury to freshman Dariq Whitehead, which has kept him from making his Blue Devils debut.
Dariq Whitehead was a five-star recruit in the Class of 2022, expected to be a one-and-done player at Duke before going to the NBA. Ahead of the season, he had foot surgery and has been recovering from it ever since, preventing him from seeing the court during the early part of Duke’s season.
Now, Jon Scheyer gave an update on his injury and where Dariq Whitehead is at during his recovery when asked if he would be back for Friday’s game against Delaware.

“Probably not Friday,” Jon Scheyer said. “But, he’s progressing as much as we can get him just back in game shape and then playing against contact. He’s only done that for one day, and he needs more time than that to work back to being himself and getting back in game shape.”
While Duke is excited to get Dariq Whitehead out on the court, it’s probably best to play it safe with him. Duke isn’t the kind of program that needs him in the non-conference to make the NCAA Tournament. At the same time, if Whitehead rushes back and gets injured again, it could derail the season long-term for Duke.

Dariq Whitehead signed a NIL deal with Cuts Clothing
Along with fellow Duke freshman teammate Kyle Filipowski both signed a NIL deal with Cuts Clothing, a clothing company that has NIL deals with numerous college athletes.
“It [Cuts Clothing] aims to outfit the world’s most ambitious people, and Whitehead and Filipowski embody these values to the fullest,” according to the release.
“Throughout this partnership, Cuts looks to outfit both players with the apparel they need to traverse their busy lives as students, athletes and young professionals.”
