Jon Scheyer reveals Tyrese Proctor is 'recovering well'
Tyrese Proctor missed Saturday’s win over Charlotte with an ankle injury. Being able to nurse his injury for a week, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer revealed where Proctor is on the road to recovery — and when we might see the point guard back on the floor for the Blue Devils.
“He is recovering well,” Scheyer said, via Duke on X. “He just sprained it pretty good… I do know that he is attacking his rehab every day… We want to make sure that there is nothing limiting him. There is no rush. We want him to be right, as close to 100% as possible.”
Proctor appeared to injure his leg on one of Duke’s first possessions vs. Georgia Tech on Dec. 2. He had to be helped off the court by teammates and was taken to the locker room minutes later and did not return to the contest. Duke would lose to Tech 72-68 as insult was added to injury as it was later revealed to be an ankle sprain by Scheyer in the days following the incident.
Luckily for the Blue Devils, their backcourt more than held their own without Proctor’s services on Saturday against Charlotte. Duke outlasted the 49ers 80-56 behind a career-high performance from freshman guard Jared McCain. Jeremy Roach, who is now the main point guard thanks to Prcotor’s injury, has been one of Duke’s most consistent scorers as of late and continued that trend on Saturday, scoring 18 points and tying his season-high with three made three-pointers.
For now, however, Proctor will remain on the sidelines as he nurses his ankle — but the good news is that Duke only has three more games for the rest of the month. Based on the update and Duke’s upcoming schedule Scheyer isn’t expecting him to miss much time.

Still, Duke is missing 10.3 points and 4.5 assists worth of production without him on the court. Through eight appearances this season, his numbers are slightly up from his stats as a true freshman.
Proctor played his high school ball at the NBA Global Academy in Sydney, Australia, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 47 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 6 point guard in the class.
Next up for Duke is a matchup against Hofstra on Tuesday at home. After that, they’ll have eight days off before hosting No. 6 Baylor — a matchup which they’ll need to be at full strength for.
