Maliq Brown injury: Duke forward exits Notre Dame game with injury
Duke forward Maliq Brown exited the Notre Dame game Saturday with an apparent knee injury after colliding with teammate Mason Gillis.
Duke led 21-12 at the time of Brown’s departure to the locker room. The Blue Devils also raced out to an 14-0 lead in the first half to stun the visiting Fighting Irish.
Brown logged one rebound before heading to the locker room. Coming into the game, Brown averaged 2.6 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 1.6 assists per game.
ESPN sideline reporter Jess Sims reported Brown was ruled out for the rest of the game during Saturday’s broadcast.
As a member of the Class of 2022, Brown was a three-star recruit out of Culpeper (Va.) Blue Ridge School, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 12 overall prospect in the state, the No. 52 power forward in the class and the No. 251 overall prospect in the class.

Maliq Brown exits with injury
Brown is a solid role player for Duke, but the team might only go as far as freshman phenom Cooper Flagg will take them.
Duke head coach Jon Scheyer is now campaigning to crown Flagg as the best player in the country. He admits there is some bias in his statement but points to how easy the game comes to the true freshman. His numbers may not be too flashy but Scheyer is confident in how Duke plays when Flagg is out there.
“I know I’m biased or whatever but if we’re not talking about him as one of the best — if a chance to be the best player in the country. To me, he is the best player,” Scheyer said after Tuesday’s win over Pitt. “I think he’s proven that with who we’ve played, the competition. The fact that he does it in such a mature way, he doesn’t hunt numbers. He just puts up numbers because the game comes to him, he plays the game the right way.
“So, I think we need to make sure we’re talking about him that way. He’s proven it to me, he’s got to continue to prove it. But to me, when we step on the floor, we have the best player in the country. That’s a big deal.”
