Maliq Brown injury update: Jon Scheyer provides insight on Duke forward missing game
Jon Scheyer knows that e could have used Maliq Brown on Tuesday against Incarnate Word.
Scheyer noted Brown’s absence from the lineup against the Cardinals earlier this week during his postgame press conference.
“You know what, we missed Maliq out there too,” Scheye said following the 72-46 win over IWU. “Maliq is a key guy.”
As for why he didn’t play, Scheyer revealed that Brown sprained his toe in the game prior for the Blue Devils against Louisville. All of his testing on it since then has been positive but they wanted to be cautious with him, especially with them off for a week in between games currently.
“You know, it’s – he sprained his toe in the Louisville game,” said Scheyer. “Done all the imaging. Everything checked out. He’s okay. Just the toe, you know, can take a little bit of time.”
Brown, the transfer from Syracuse, has come off the bench in each of their games this season. In his 21 minutes, he has averaged 3.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, two steals, and 1.7 assists while shooting 63.2% from the field. That has him first on the team in steals and second in rebounding as one of the top defenders on one of the nation’s top defenses this season.

Again, Duke won’t take the floor again until next week when they host George Mason ahead of the start of conference play in the ACC. That gives Brown a few more days to have his toe heal ahead of when they’d next tip off.
“We hope to get him back as soon as possible,” Scheyer said.
Duke trolls North Carolina with Zion Williamson post
BYU landed the No. 1 player in the 2025 recruiting class this week in AJ Dybantsa.
As you might imagine, the nation’s blue blood basketball programs were also battling it out for his services. However, per reporting by Matt Norlander of CBS, North Carolina took an odd recruiting strategy, in basically telling Dybantsa what a year at a blue blood program like Duke did for Zion Williamson in terms of marketing and contract money.
Once the report of that story surfaced on Wednesday, the Blue Devils decided to troll the Tar Heels for that with a gif of Williamson on Twitter.
