Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove four-star quarterback Tyler Cherry has committed to Duke, he announced Saturday afternoon on Twitter.

Cherry chose the Blue Devils over more than 20 offers, including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Pitt and Vanderbilt.

Listed at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, Cherry led Center Grove to an Indiana 6A state championship in 2022. He threw for 2,269 yards in 14 games, totaling 22 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Cherry also completed 65 percent of his passes.

Cherry is the No. 356 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 23 quarterback and the No. 4 recruit in Indiana.

On3 ranks Tyler Cherry as one of the country’s top QBs

On3 however, is higher on him than other recruiting services. In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the country’s No. 227 prospect, No. 14 passer and No. 3 recruit in the Hoosier State.

“When we were going through quarterbacks for the most recent update to the On300, Tyler Cherry was one of three or four guys who were obvious risers for us going back through their junior film,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power said earlier this month.

… I think what really stood out on his film was his passing from the pocket. His arm talent really stuck out. He has no issues getting the ball downfield. He’s a taller quarterback and more of a prototypical pocket passer compared to most of the players we’ve seen so far, although his movement within the pocket was good as well.”

Cherry is the fifth commitment in the 2024 cycle for the Blue Devils, who rank No. 38 nationally in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Three-star safety Landan Callahan, defensive lineman Preston Watson, offensive lineman Bradley Smith and wide receiver Jayden Moore help make up the rest of Duke’s 2024 class.
