Caleb Foster, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard out of Mount of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill, is a top prospect in the class of 2023. Last week, Foster announced his commitment to Duke over Auburn, Virginia, Stanford, and Louisville.

Strengths of Caleb Foster

Size and Speed

Foster has big frame and long wingspan, but also possesses the quickness to get past defenders. He also has the strength for tough, contested finishes around the basket. Foster often uses his size to bully smaller guards. In the Under Armour circuit this past summer, he would often get a rebound and take the ball coast to coast for a layup on the other end.

Iso/ Hesitation moves

Foster is a very elite isolation player. He picks and chooses his points of attack; there is no time when he is wasting dribbles. His isolation moves are going to be essential for the next level in the Duke’s offense where the Blue Devils are fast-paced. Foster is likely to be utilized a great deal early in his career at Duke due to his ability to shoot or drive to the basket.

Deep Range Shooter

The ability to shoot from range is important at all levels of basketball, and Fosters is consistent from the three-point stripe and beyond. At the NBAPA camp in August of this year, he continually would make three-point shots from the NBA three-point line. Whenever a Duke team struggled, it has always been because they haven’t had a consistent shooter on the team. Foster will be the player that the Blue Devil’s lean on for big shots in Clutch moments.

Foster NBA Comparison

Quinn Cook was a four-year player for the Duke Blue Devils. He went undrafted but then became a two-time champion in the NBA. Although Cook is smaller than Foster, their games are very similar. Both Cook and foster have a quick first step that allows them to blow by their defenders. Both guards excel at the pull-up jumper, whether it be from the mid-range or three-point line. At Duke, Foster will be molded into the leader that Cook was at the school. Naturally, being a guard and with Jeremy Roach expected to enter the NBA draft, Foster will also be expected to become the leader Cook was for the Blue Devils.
