WATCH: Duke quarterback Riley Leonard extends lead with 56-yard touchdown run
The Duke Blue Devils football program is well on their way to a 3-0 start to the season. In their first two games, Duke shut out Temple at home and upended Northwestern on the road. And thanks to the play of quarterback Riley Leonard they are less than a half away from beating North Carolina A&T.
Leonard has been in his bag all game, and to start the third quarter, he pulled off this 56-yard run for the touchdown. On second and ten from their own 44-yard line, the Blue Devils hit the Aggies with an RPO. Seeing that the defense bit on the handoff, Leonard pulls the ball from his running back, bends around his left tackle, and the foot race is on. Once he cuts up the field, he shakes one defender in the secondary and breaks free for the 56-yard touchdown run.
Since then, Duke has added another score and now leads 42-6 halfway through the third quarter. It’s safe to say that the Blue Devils are dangerously close to the best start on the football field in the program’s recent history.
