Top-30 point guard Tyrese Proctor commits to Duke
Tyrese Proctor, a 6-foot-4 point guard out of Canberra (AUS) NBA Global Academy, has committed to Duke University, he tells On3.
The Australian guard is ranked as the No. 26 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to On3. He chose the Blue Devils over Arizona and the NBA’s G-League.
Proctor is the fourth addition to the Blue Devils’ class. He joins Caleb Foster (No. 14), Sean Stewart (No. 22), and Jared McCain (No. 23). Another Duke target, five-star Mackenzie Mgbako will announce his college decision tomorrow, April 8th.
Proctor breaks down decision
Despite being 10,000 miles away from home in Australia, Proctor says Durham immediately felt like home.

“Ever since I first stepped on campus at Duke, it just felt like home.
“Me and my family talked while I was back in Sydney, and they’re happy, and I’m happy. It just felt like home.”
How does Proctor plan to contribute?
“Just come in and help the team win. I can do my part by scoring the ball, finding my teammates when they need to be found, and just overall getting the job done.”
In February, Proctor tripped to the States to visit the Blue Devils.
“Those Crazies were something else,” Proctor said in a preview interview with On3. “I’ve never seen anything like it. It was a wild atmosphere and it was really cool to be a part of. I felt like I had a good connection to the staff and the people there. The system that they have there is really elite and I really enjoyed that visit too. The whole experience was pretty cool, you know meeting Coach K. Not many people get to do that and especially talk to him on a deeper level.”
Scouting Report
“Tyrese Proctor has a smooth quality to his game. What sticks out immediately is his jump shot, off the catch. When his feet are set, and he gets a clean look, you can count it. Proctor is also an excellent passer, able to distribute the ball to, and from, all angles of the court. He will have to continue working on shooting off the dribble – especially going left – and tightening his handle when being pressured. There is no denying Proctor’s extensive IQ, it will be interesting how much explosive burst he can gain as he continues to age.” – Jamie Shaw, On3’s National Recruiting Analyst
