Tyrese Proctor injury update: Terrible news emerges on star guard after leaving game vs. Miami

Duke point guard Tyrese Proctor has been ruled out for the rest of Tuesday’s night game against Miami, the ESPN broadcast announced. Proctor suffered a knee injury and will not return to the court. Huge news for the Blue Devils, especially this late in the season.
This was supposed to be a night of celebration for Proctor. He entered with 997 career points and surpassed the mark with a made three-point attempt with 14:36 remaining in the first half. As Proctor leaves the game with seven points on 2-5 shooting from the floor, he will stay at 1,004 career points.
Proctor was attempting to defend a Miami fast-break by contesting a shot at the rim. After kicking his left knee in the air and coming down, he immediately hobbled down the baseline in pain. You can check out the full moment here.
From a short-term perspective, there is not too much concern about Duke against Miami. Jon Scheyer‘s team is already in firm control of the game up double-digits in the second half. Miami has been a struggling team throughout the entire season.
Long-term is where questions will be asked, especially since Proctor has a knee problem. Duke is one of the favorites to cut down the nets in San Antonio. Right now, they are projected to be a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament with the No. 2 overall spot. Finishing the year out strong is critical to seeing this come to fruition on Selection Sunday.

Entering Tuesday, Proctor was averaging 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 43.5% from the field. He is also one of Duke’s top three-point threats at over 40%. While Cooper Flagg is the most important player on the roster, Proctor is a massive piece to the puzzle.
Three games remain on the regular season schedule for Duke. Saturday will see Florida State come to Cameron Indoor before hosting in-state rival Wake Forest on Monday. March 8 will wrap up the regular season with an even bigger rivalry game, North Carolina. Game No. 1 against the Tar Heels went quite well and now, Duke is going for the sweep.
Everyone in Durham will be hoping there is nothing serious about Proctor’s health. Hopefully, there will be an update from Scheyer during his postgame press conference. If not, ahead of the Florida State game when the team gets back in town.
