WATCH: Jay Bilas forecasts final home game for Mike Krzyzewski
Believe it or not, Mike Krzyzewski’s time as Duke‘s head men’s basketball coach is coming to a close. After a legendary 42-year career as the Blue Devils’ leader, Coach K will hang up his whistle following the 2021-22 season and hand over the keys to his office to Jon Scheyer, who is currently Duke’s head coach in waiting.
Although Krzyzewski still has the ACC Tournament and NCAA Tournament to coach the Blue Devils in, he’s down to just four remaining regular season games as Duke’s head man. While the team will play three straight road games at Virginia (Feb. 23), Syracuse (Feb. 26) and Pitt (March 1), it’ll then close the regular season on Saturday, March 5 against rival North Carolina at Cameron Indoor Stadium – meaning Coach K’s final regular season contest will be on his home floor.
With March 5 quickly approaching, ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas – who played for Krzyzewski at Duke from 1982-1986 – joined the Rich Eisen Show and shared his thoughts on what Coach K’s final game at Cameron Indoor Stadium could look like.
“He just had his second-to-last home game against Florida State,” Bilas said of Krzyzewski. “And the last home game that he’ll ever coach on the floor at Cameron Indoor Stadium will be against North Carolina on Saturday, March 5. I’ll be there. There’ll probably be 100 former players. I think it’ll be intensely emotional and he’ll do his best to manage it and try to keep it away from the players, but it’ll be inescapable.
“Some of the tickets are going for $20,000. I started thinking I’ve got a seat in the booth, but for $20,000 I might want to give that thing up and watch it on TV. It’ll be an unbelievable happening. But he won’t be able to escape the emotion. Knowing him so long, I know that he’ll manage it the best that it can be managed. It’ll be a lot of fun to watch and to reminisce and all that.”

Mike Krzyzewski reveals reasons for exit in Wake Forest game
After leaving the Wake Forest game, Mike Krzyzewski was back on the sidelines Saturday to coach his Duke team to a 88-70 win over Florida State. Following the victory for the Blue Devils, Coach K met with the media and revealed the reasoning for his exit on Tuesday.
“We played that stretch of four in eight and five in 11 and I don’t change my habits in preparation,” Krzyzewski said. “Look, it’s a long year. And that’s why I retired – It doesn’t perk as quickly. We had that day off on Wednesday and I saw whoever I needed to see, and basically it was exhaustion but nothing else.
“I feel great. It’s more of a normal schedule now, and so I think I’ll be good. I’m trying to be good.”
