Duke junior Wendell Moore Jr. showed how ready he was for the season to begin during a practice where he threw down a power dunk over his teammate. In the video shared on social media, Moore elevates from inside the paint at full speed and attacks the rim.

Wendell Moore’s practice dunk

Seeing Moore ready to attack like he did in practice is great news for Duke as they expect him to take a larger role in their team with his experience. In the ACC tournament, Moore showcased his versatility with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists in a win over Louisville.

As a forward, Moore was third among Blue Devils players in assists and increased his career averages across the board. Moore finished his sophomore season with 9.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

Along with his improvement on the court, Moore has drawn attention for accolades. Moore was named to the preseason watch list for the Julius Erving Award, presented to the nation’s best small forward. He also was named to the Naismith Trophy watchlist for the 2020-2021 season.

Duke is expected to be ranked highly as the season begins, having added five-star prospects from the 2021 class. With Matthew Hurt and DJ Steward leaving school early, Duke and head coach Mike Krzyzewski should be able to build a dominant team for the season.

Duke recruiting success

Over the past few weeks, Duke has secured commitments from a pair of top recruits for the coming seasons. 2022 five-star center Dereck Lively II announced his commitment last week, and 2023 five-star point guard Caleb Foster declared his own intention the week before that.

Lively enters the 2022 recruit class as On3’s number 2 highest-ranked prospect with a grade of 99.

Following Dereck Lively’s commitment to DukeESPN updated its 2022 team recruiting rankings. As expected, it’s a two-way battle at the top between Kentucky and Duke, with the Blue Devils currently holding the edge.
