Report: Florida International hires new offensive coordinator
Former Texas Tech offensive coordinator David Yost is set to become the new offensive coordinator at Florida International, according to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports.
The news broke on Sunday night. Yost has been the offensive coordinator at Texas Tech, Utah State, and Missouri. In 2018, he was a semifinalist for the Broyles Award, given to the nation’s top assistant coach. He was one of five offensive coordinators that season that were recognized as semifinalists for the award.
While he was at Utah State, the Aggies scored at least 40 points in 13 different games, including 10 times with 50 or more points. In 2017, the Aggies scored 50 or more points in three games and produced 500 yards of total offense in four games.
Yost was most recently coaching at Texas Tech as their offensive coordinator from 2019-2020. For most of his coaching career, he’s coached the quarterback position. He’s worked with the likes of signal-callers such as: Brad Smith (Missouri), Chase Daniels (Missouri), Blaine Gabbert (Missouri), Justin Herbert (Oregon), and Jordan Love (Utah State).
Brad Smith was one of the most electrifying players in college football history. During his remarkable career for the Missouri Tigers, he became the first player in Division I-A history to pass for 8,000 yards and rush for 4,000 yards in his career.

What offensive weapons will Yost have to work with at Florida International?
The music to FIU Panthers’ fans ears was the recent announcement that sophomore wide receiver Tyrese Chambers withdrew from the transfer portal. He decided to come back to Florida International. He’ll be the most dynamic weapon that Yost will work with in the Golden Panthers’ passing attack.
Chambers had the most prolific season by a receiver in FIU history in 2021. He hauled in 1,074 receiving yards–good enough for the top single-season yardage mark in FIU program history. He also averaged 23.9 yards per catch. His nine touchdown catches were also the most in a single season by any receiver in Golden Panther history. Simply put, having him back is massive for the Florida International offense and Yost.
One of the candidates to earn the starting quarterback job for the Panthers will be Grayson James. In high school, James suited up for Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas, one of the most prestigious programs in the state. As a senior, he threw for over 3,800 yards and 42 touchdowns. He was an Elite 11 finalist in the summer of 2020.
