Florida Atlantic forward Tre Carroll has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He has spent four seasons with the Owl.

Carroll made 36 appearances and 14 starts for the team this season. He averaged 12.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 22.1 minutes per game. He shot 52.3% from the field and 38.8% from beyond the arc.

Carroll only stepped his game up against quality competition. In FAU’s three games against ranked opponents this season, Carroll averaged 17.7 points per game. In fact, the 6-foot-7 redshirt junior erupted for 24 points and eight rebounds on 10-15 shooting against Michigan State.

For his efforts this season, Carroll was named an All-AAC Second-Team selection. Additionally, he was the 2024-25 AAC Co-Most Improved Player of the Year.

As the latter honor indicates, Carroll made significant strides in his game this season. Prior to the 2024-25 campaign, Carroll had never averaged more than eight minutes per game. Now, after a breakout year, Carroll is ready to take his talents to a bigger stage.

Tre Carroll played high school basketball at Charlotte (FL), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He averaged 22.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per game during his senior year.

He is the fourth FAU player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. The other three players were all starters for the Owls.

FAU is no stranger to being forced to revamp its roster during the offseason. After head coach Dusty May left the program last year to take over at Michigan, seven players from the program entered the transfer portal, including standouts Alijah Martin, Vladislav Goldin and Johnell Davis.

FAU went 18-16 this season in its first year under head coach John Jakus. The Owl also posted a 10-8 record in conference play. Although they didn’t reach the NCAA Tournament, they were invited to play in the NIT. They lost in the first round to Dayton, 86-79.

Although it wasn’t the storybook ending Jakus was hoping for, it was a respectable ending to an excellent first season. Jakus’ 18 wins are the most by a first-year head coach in FAU history. He’s excited to build on the foundation he laid this season.

“It took the other teams – to get to 18 or 19 wins – four or five years. We got there in Year 1,” Jakus said. “So, our Year 2 is going to be someone else’s Year 4 or 5, and that’s our expectation. We know this isn’t up to the standard, but I’m thankful for the 11 new guys coming and giving us something to build on.”
