5-star Florida QB commit DJ Lagway accounts for 8 first-half TDs
Willis (Texas) five-star Florida quarterback commit DJ Lagway put on quite a show Friday night.
Willis won 52-21 over Bryan (Texas) Rudder behind a stellar performance from its elite future Gators signal-caller.
Lagway was 19-of-21 passing for 425 yards and seven touchdowns in the first half alone. He also tacked on a rushing score, making him responsible for eight first-half touchdowns.
Lagway part of Florida five-star duo
Lagway is the No. 31 overall prospect and No. 4 quarterback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 8 player in Texas.
He committed to Florida last December and is one of two five-stars pledged to the Gators. McKinney (Texas) five-star safety Xavier Filsaime committed to Florida back in April.

“I knew on my last visit up there,” Lagway told On3 when he committed. “I had a really great time with my whole family with me. We all enjoyed it and I love what Coach Napier is doing up there in Gainesville and I’m excited to continue to see what he does.
… Florida checks all the boxes, from the depth chart and the way that Anthony Richardson played this season. I love the offense that Coach Napier brings to the table and I feel like I fit in perfectly in there like Anthony Richardson did last year. We play similarly and I know I can grow and develop as more of a player and a person off the field at Florida.”
Options at wideout for Lagway in this class include Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star Jerrae Hawkins, Fort Myers (Fla.) Dunbar four-star Tawaski Abrams and Zephyrhills (Fla.) Carrollwood Day four-star Izaiah Williams.
Lagway also has an On3 NIL Valuation of $554,000. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
