Alex Condon injury: Florida big man helped to locker room vs. Mississippi State

An already depleted Florida basketball team suffered an injury to a key player in the opening minute of a game at Mississippi State, with center Alex Condon going down.
Condon was attempting to secure a rebound and came down awkwardly on his right ankle. He immediately headed to the locker room after being tended to by trainers. He could not put much weight on the right leg.
His absence could be a devastating blow for the Gators, even though Florida has some depth in the frontcourt.
UPDATE, 7:27 p.m. ET: According to a team spokesman, Alex Condon has been ruled out for the rest of the game against Mississippi State.
Alex Condon is the team’s leading rebounder, averaging 8.1 boards per contest. He also chips in 11.0 points, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game, so he makes a difference in virtually every aspect of the game.
The injury occurred with only 30 seconds ticking off the clock in the first half, so how Florida manages foul trouble in the frontcourt will be worth watching. Thomas Haugh (7.9 PPG, 6.1 RPG) and Sam Alexis (5.0 PPG, 3.6 RPG) will be the primary players off the bench to soak up some of Alex Condon’s minutes while he’s out.

Alijah Martin ruled out vs. Mississippi State
Florida was already playing without one key starter in the game against Mississippi State, with Alijah Martin out with a hip pointer injury. That makes the Alex Condon loss sting even more.
Martin is missing his second straight game after sustaining a hip pointer injury during conference play.
Alijah Martin is Florida’s second-leading scorer this season, averaging 15.3 points per game while shooting 45.2% from the field and 34.0% from beyond the arc. He is also putting up 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
The graduate transfer from Florida Atlantic also sat out this past Saturday’s game against Auburn. That didn’t stop the Gators from pulling off a 90-81 win over the No. 1 Tigers.
Florida will be hoping to keep the mojo away from home going tonight against Mississippi State.
