Anthony Richardson congratulates Emory Jones following Florida loss
Florida backup quarterback Anthony Richardson congratulated starter Emory Jones following a 31-29 loss to Alabama on Saturday. Richardson missed the game because of a hamstring injury.
Jones finished 18-of-28 passing for 195 yards and also threw an interception. He added 19 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown.
“Congrats my g, you definitely shocked the world today,” Richardson said on Twitter. “Continue to strive for greatness and keep playing ball. Let’s keep it going and handle one day at a time.”
Although the backup, Richardson played an integral part in Florida’s first two victories. He broke off on rushing touchdowns of both 80 and 73 yards.
The Gators employed a two-quarterback system in the first couple of contests but were forced to stick with just Jones against the Crimson Tide.
Alabama jumped out to a 21-3 lead after the first quarter of play. Florida would storm back from that point to nearly tie the game. Running back Dameon Pierce scored on a 17-yard touchdown run with 3:10 left to play. However, the Gators failed a 2-point conversion that would have tied the game.

The Crimson Tide milked all but four seconds off the clock before punting to give Florida one final opportunity. Jones looked around for an open receiver but found none and was tackled after a 1-yard run.
The Gators did most of their damage on the ground, as they gained 245 yards rushing and averaged 5.7 yards per carry. Malik Davis led the team with 86 yards and a touchdown.
Florida now turns its attention to Tennessee, which it faces at 7 p.m. ET Saturday in Gainesville. It is unclear whether Anthony Richardson will be healthy enough to play, so it could be the Emory Jones show once again.
The Gators could get another opportunity to knock off Alabama if they make the SEC Championship Game. The two schools met in the game this past season with the Crimson Tide claiming a 52-46 victory.
