Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson shared a video on Twitter of what exactly caused his injury while dancing before the Gators took on South Carolina. The redshirt freshman, nicknamed AR-15 after his initials and jersey number, shared the exact dance he claimed he hurt himself doing in the team hotel.

Anthony Richardson’s bizarre dancing injury

Richardson wasn’t available to play for Dan Mullen and the Gators on Saturday versus South Carolina. It was recently revealed by Mullen on Monday that the real reason Richardson wasn’t available was because he had injured his knee while dancing in the team hotel on Friday.

Richardson sustained a concussion in the third quarter of Florida’s game against Georgia and wasn’t able to practice on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of last week. Richardson was cleared to practice on Thursday but was limited. He was fully cleared to play on Saturday before injuring himself in the hotel.

“His MRI came back clean,” Mullen said on Monday of Richardson’s prognosis. “He’s fine. He got cleared to practice Thursday for the concussion. So he only practiced Thursday then somehow he hurt his knee dancing Friday night. Then he did treatment all day Saturday but was fine to go play, could have played Saturday but having not practiced, coming off a concussion, and with that, he was going to emergency-only situation. Then he was gimping around earlier today, so we’ll see.”

Sophomore quarterback Emory Jones got the start versus the Gamecocks instead and the Gators went down in an embarrassing fashion. Jones went 17-for-30 with 238 passing yards, two scores and an interception. The Gators had a net of 82 rushing yards in the 40-17 loss.

Anthony Richardson has 474 passing yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions on the year. He’s also added 347 rushing yards and three more scores on the ground.

Florida makes major changes with coaching staff

The Florida Gators confirmed reports from Sunday night that they are making staff changes heading into Week 11. The Gators are parting ways with defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and run-game coordinator/offensive line coach John Hevesy.

The staff changes require Dan Mullen to move some coaches around. The program shared that linebackers coach Christian Robinson will take over defensive play-calling duties. Also, Paul Pasqualoni, special assistant to the head coach, will take an on-field role for the remainder of the 2021 season.

Additionally, Michael Sollenne, who has been with the team since 2020 as a graduate assistant on the offense, will work with the OL for the rest of the year.

Robinson is in his fourth season with the Gators. Pasqualoni was a head coach at Syracuse and the University of Connecticut, in addition, he coached at several stops in the NFL.
