Anthony Rubio, the son of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, announced that he has committed to Florida as a preferred walk-on. He announced the news on Twitter.

A 5-foot-10, 175-pound running back at Belen Jesuit Prep, Rubio held a pair of offers from Buffalo and Charlotte but opted to remain in his home state as a preferred walk-on.

Anthony’s father Marco attended Florida and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1993. He ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 and has been a senator in Florida since 2011.

In 2015 he sparked a feud between Florida and Florida State after saying in an interview with Des Moines sports radio station KXnO:

“Look, I don’t have anything against Florida State. I think there has to be a school where people that can’t get into Florida can go to college, and so that’s why we have Florida State.”

Florida State president John Thrasher responded by telling the Tallahassee Democrat saying that Rubio was a “nice kid” and that he was sure Rubio was likely “frustrated by his low standing in the polls, which I believe could be a reflection of where he got his education.”

Rubio responded with a tweet saying that the banter between the two was just fun college football trash talk.

Florida has one of the top-ranked 2023 classes as the Gators sit at No. 11 ahead of national signing day. They have 20 commits currently headlined by 16 four-star recruits.

The Gators’ class includes notables top-100 players like Gardendale (Ala.) four-star defensive lineman Kelby Collins, Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola four-star cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson and Orlando (Fla.) and Boone four-star wide receiver Aiden Mizell.

Rubio currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.8K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
