Florida came up short against Kentucky in Swamp, losing to the Wildcats for the second season in a row. It was a game that the Gators looked like they had a good shot to win the game in the first half before Kentucky overcame early issues. It’s a game that Billy Napier knows that Florida didn’t deserve to win.

While speaking to the media during a press conference, Billy Napier explained why Florida didn’t actually deserve to win the game.

“I think it’s about our formula to win,” Billy Napier said. “What’s worked for us in the past, right?”

“The top of that list is own the ball, attack the ball, right? You know, if you just want to take a bird’s eye view of the game, that’s where we didn’t earn the right to win.”

Billy Napier explained that winning the game means playing the way you need to do to win. For Florida, that’s valuing possession of the ball. It’s making the most of opportunities, which they didn’t do.

“If you include the turnover on downs stat, we turned the ball over four times to their one. Right, so we’re minus three. We didn’t play well on conversion downs on offense. Had to kick a couple field goals in the fringe of the four-point play, redzone part of the field. We weren’t very efficient,” Billy Napier said.

“So, we didn’t do enough on offense to win the game. So, when I say earn the right to win, I’m talking about our form and how we win. We play complimentary football. And, there were parts of our team where we didn’t earn the right to win. It’s that simple.”
