Texas A&M has had to shift the focus of its 2022 season. As they sit at 3-5 amid a four-game losing streak, the young talent has gotten more of a chance to play and they’ve played well. That development, especially coming from a part of A&M’s recent No. 1 recruiting class, is something that Billy Napier says he’s going to have to account for.

Napier spoke about the production of A&M’s young prospects during his press conference on Wednesday. He said their contributions are good now at the moment but they’re great considering what that means for their futures.

“There’s a lot of players that are contributing as young players for them,” said Napier. “To me, I sit around thinking that’s a good thing, right? Because rookies can impact your team.”

QB Conner Weigman is the most recent A&M freshman to make a difference for the Aggies. That’s not to mention some of the other offensive freshmen, especially WR Evan Stewart, as well as defensive rookies like DB Bryce Anderson and DL Shemar Stewart who are getting the job done at their positions.

That’s just freshman, though. There are a handful of sophomores who are benefiting from extra play. Napier says it’s a credit to Jimbo Fisher and his staff for doing the work on the recruiting trail to find impactful players, bring them to College Station, and allowing them to fill roles within their program early.

“There’s no question they evaluated well. They’ve recruited well. Those players? They were mid-year players and they’ve made the most of the competition there. They’ve got a role on their team,” Napier said.

Youth is often a negative when it comes to a team. Teams can exploit the lack of experience on the field, but that hasn’t really been the case for A&M yet. That makes them a problem for Napier and Florida as they prepare for their trip to Kyle Field on Saturday.
