Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson has all the talent in the world. However, he has proven to be an inconsistent player with another multi-interception game. This one was against a bad USF defense. It’s a problem that is holding the Florida offense back and is something that he and head coach Billy Napier need to figure out.

While speaking to the media, Billy Napier explained the advice he gave to Anthony Richardson following another multi-interception game.

“You try to keep it technical, right?” Billy Napier said. “I think that it’s important that he has a process and that he understands what happened and why it happened.

“The good thing is, he does. So, you know, I think Anthony is a guy who’s in a new system, he’s a guy who started his third game tonight, and he made a lot of good plays out there tonight but there were plays that he made mistakes on–much like every player, you know.”

Overall, Billy Napier was still very positive about Anthony Richardson’s performance. Putting aside the turnovers, there was still good to be found and he’s still a developing quarterback.

“So, I think that you just, you try to create an environment where the guy can learn, right? He can continue to develop and grow as a player. No matter what you say in a practice environment, okay, when you make mistakes in a game setting, when you have success in a game setting, that becomes more real to you, right? You live and learn from those experiences,” Billy Napier continued.

“So, I think Anthony will continue to grow as a player.”

Billy Napier explained the second interception

Billy Napier gave his thoughts on Anthony Richardson’s second interception against USF. It was a third quarter pass that came with a two-score lead and gave the Bulls momentum.

“Run play with an individual cut option right. They loaded the box up. We had one-on-one coverage over there. He made a decision to throw it. I have no issue with the decision that he made to throw it. It’s how he threw it, right. And, you know, he tried to throw a back shoulder fade when that wasn’t what was required, right. So simple play, got to be executed better. Certainly part of Anthony’s growth as a player, right. You know, you play that position. We put the ball in his hands and asked him to do a lot. He’s going to make some mistakes and certainly he can throw that one better,” Billy Napier said.
