Billy Napier swats away question on grading himself with perfect answer
Billy Napier has had one positive and one negative to the start of his Florida coaching career. Napier started with a Top-10 win over Utah in his debut. He then followed it up with a Top-20 loss to open SEC play against Kentucky. When asked to grade the start of his career in Gainesville, though, Napier wasn’t interested in an evaluation.
Napier had a press conference on Wednesday and said he’s not into grades. For him, it’s about the focus of each person in the program on consistent improvement every day.

“I don’t know that I’m into giving grades. I think that we’re trying to improve,” said Napier. “We had Wednesday today. We had an in-season Wednesday and we’re trying to do Wednesday better than we’ve ever done it before. This is our third opportunity. I just think the main focus here is improving at our job, every single person in the building.”
The grade would’ve been an A+ following the Gator’s win over the Utes. However, their performance against Kentucky was middle of the pack at best. Napier believes that’s the perfect example of the fluidity during a season. They’ve had a difficult schedule to start and split the games at 1-1. That’s why he’s going to focus on how his team grows from now until tomorrow and leave us to grade his coaching.

“The grade would be did you do it better than you did it last week? That’s a fluid thing. That’s going to evolve the rest of the way. I think it’s more about efficiency and doing your job each day,” said Napier. “We’ll leave (grades) up to you guys. Y’all can do that.”
In the grand scheme of things, Billy Napier hasn’t accomplished anything yet in The Swamp. That’s why grading himself or his team at this point is pointless to him. He and his team have a long way to go as they look to get back in the win column against South Florida on Saturday.
