No. 1 Georgia is blowing out its rival Florida in the annual rivalry game in Jacksonville, Fla., with a little bit of help before halftime from the officiating crew on what appeared to be a blown call for pass interference.

Inside of the final minute in the half, quarterback Stetson Bennett IV took a shot down the right sideline to receiver Ladd McConkey on third-and-10. McConkey appeared to push off Florida cornerback Jason Marshall as he separated at the top of his route, making the catch for a 30-yard gain.

But rather than flagging McConkey for offensive pass interference, the SEC officiating crew instead tagged Marshall for defensive pass interference.

Even the CBS broadcast crew was miffed at the call.

“Oh jeez,” CBS commentator Gary Danielson said live on the air. “They’re jostling, jostling… gives him a shove. Whatever. I don’t know. That’s a bad call. I do know, I think that’s a bad call.”

His on-air partner, Brad Nessler, wasted little time agreeing with his assessment of a blown call.

“Wow,” Nessler said. “I was with you all the way on that one. That’s shocking.”

With the first down granted after Georgia declined the penalty, the Bulldogs wasted little time converting the opportunity into points. Two plays later Bennett found McConkey on a 7-yard slant for a touchdown in front of defensive backs Tre’Vez Johnson and Rashad Torrence, extending Georgia’s halftime lead to 28-3.
