Brendan Lawson hits Ole Miss with intense bat flip after intentional walk sets up go-ahead grand slam

With the game tied 5-5 and the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning, Florida freshman Brendan Lawson went yard against Ole Miss. He wasn’t shy to let the Rebels know about it, either.
Ole Miss had elected to walk Florida’s Colby Shelton on the previous at-bat. Evidently, Lawson took that personally.
After sending the grand slam soaring over right-center field, Lawson stared down Ole Miss’ dugout while hitting an aggressive bat flip. It was Lawson’s eighth home run of the season. The first-year standout also boasts a .323 batting average and 33 RBI’s this season.
Despite the highlight moment, Lawson didn’t have the last laugh. Ole Miss scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and three runs in the ninth to escape with a 10-9 victory. Check out Lawson’s jaw-dropping hit below.
Lawson was one of the top high school prospects coming out of Canada in 2024. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 19th round of the 2024 MLB Draft but elected to play for the Gators instead.

Although Lawson didn’t take his talents to the next level, he did compete in the 2024 MLB Draft League, where he batted .344/.533/.375 with one double, two RBI, six runs and more walks (12) than strikeouts (10) over 45 plate appearances.
“Lawson is an advanced prep hitter with a disciplined approach and an unusual setup at the plate,” Lawson’s MLB.com scouting reporting read. “He holds his hands above his head before starting his left-handed stroke, though that doesn’t stop him from barreling balls with regularity. Some evaluators think he’ll develop into a 20-homer threat, while others question his bat speed and think he has more fringy power.
“With fringy speed and average arm strength, Lawson is unlikely to remain at shortstop in pro ball. The Florida recruit has good hands and can make some plays at short, but he’ll probably lose a step as he adds more muscle to his wiry 6-foot-3 frame. He projects as more of a third baseman or left fielder in the long run.”
Thus far, Lawson has lived up to the hype for the Gators. After a breakout week in February, Lawson was named the SEC Freshman of the Week. Brendan Lawson and Co. will look to exact revenge on Ole Miss tomorrow at 8:20 p.m. ET. The Rebels are 2-0 so far in the three-game series.
