Dan Mullen got cagey when asked which quarterback will start for the Florida Gators against the Georgia Bulldogs. After the performance on Anthony Richardson against LSU, many believe he should get a lion-share of opportunities over Emory Jones.

However, Mullen decided against naming a starter on Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference.

“Uh, like every day, we’ll look at everything and we evaluate everything that we do all the time,” stated Mullen. “Just like at every position or spot on the field. We have both guys that have played a bunch, who have experience, and we’re fortunate to have two guys that are a pretty good combination out on the field together.”

Moreover, Mullen harkened back to Florida’s strategy of playing both Richardson and Jones in games. Continuing, the Florida coach stated that he won’t reveal the quarterback who will take the first snaps of the game.

“I’m never going to get into the strategy of what we’re going to do in a game,” said Mullen. “Like I’ve said, we’ve played both quarterbacks in every game and I’m not going to get into the strategy of when I’m going to play the different guys. I’m not going to tell you what the first play of the game is going to be if that’s what you’re asking.”

Don’t expect to hear Mullen name a quarterback as his starter prior to Saturday’s contest. When the Florida offense takes the field for their first series, we’ll find out whether it’s Richardson or Jones starting.

Mullen: ‘We’ll play both quarterbacks during the course of the game.’

Furthermore, Mullen stated that both Richardson and Jones will have roles in the game — barring both being healthy. For the contingent that believes it’s time to let Richardson sink or swim for an entire game, it’s evident Mullen isn’t at that point yet.

“I haven’t set the script yet for what we’re going to call for the first play of the game. We’ll look at that as we get into the game plan (preparation). … As long as everyone is healthy, we’ll play both quarterbacks during the course of the game,” said Mullen. “But I’m not going to disclose (who’s starting) and to be honest with you, we haven’t gotten that far into game planning to know what’s going to happen.”

As you can see, Dan Mullen has no interest in giving Georgia any idea of which quarterback will be under center to begin the game. However, it’d be surprising to see Anthony Richardson not get the nod after his phenomenal performance in Death Valley.
