DJ Lagway injury update: Florida QB shares latest on recovery ahead of training camp

With training camp quickly approaching, DJ Lagway said he’s feeling healthy in his recovery from injury. The Florida quarterback dealt with an injury late in the 2024 season and was limited in spring practice.
Lagway missed the end of his freshman year with a leg injury and had a lower body issue during spring ball, which limited his participation. Speaking with reporters at SEC Media Days, he said he’s fully healthy now and his recovery is going well.
The former top recruit also joked about some of the social media posts about his injury. That said, Lagway said he’s working to not only return to what he was in 2024, but get even better.
“I don’t have a prosthetic arm,” Lagway joked. “Just letting you all know that. … But I’m feeling great. Training has been amazing. I’ve been working – I’m actually getting better. I’m not just getting back to throwing the ball.
“I’ve been working on mechanics that’s going to help my accuracy this year, help my decision making. It’s been great. I’m just excited to get out there with the guys on the first game.”
When asked whether he can make all the throws fans saw during his freshman year in 2024, Lagway didn’t hesitate when he said he could. In fact, he predicted he’d make even more highlight-reel plays – although he wants to make sure he can do the simple things before worrying about the explosives.

“I’m going to make more of them,” Lagway said. “Yes sir, for sure. But that’s not my biggest thing right now. My biggest thing is making the boring throws more consistently. And that’s where I want to improve my game.”
DJ Lagway arrived at Florida last year with plenty of fanfare as the crown jewel of the Gators’ recruiting class. He initially sat behind Graham Mertz on the depth chart before taking the starting job full-time after Mertz suffered an injury. In 12 games, Lagway threw for 1,915 yards and 12 touchdowns to nine interceptions.
Florida coach Billy Napier also expressed optimism about Lagway’s health with camp just two weeks away. He continues to look the part in workouts, which bodes well for his status despite the uncertainty this offseason.
“We throw the quarterback three times a week,” Napier said. “He’s continued to do that. He actually got a good session in this morning before he came here. So, we feel confident in terms of him being ready to go.”
