DJ Lagway reacts to Florida commitment to Billy Napier as head coach
Florida released a statement of support for coach Billy Napier on Thursday morning and star quarterback DJ Lagway is apparently a big fan of the move.
Lagway liked a screenshot of the letter that athletics director Scott Stricklin wrote to the Gator Nation, informing them that Napier will “continue” as coach of the Gators, reposting it with a handful of emojis.
First, DJ Lagway included a smiley face, followed by two gator emojis, then five exclamation marks. You can check it out below.
The news that Lagway is supportive of the news on Napier should come as little surprise, though it’s still welcome news for the Gator Nation that he remains on board with everything happening.
Napier, of course, recruited DJ Lagway to Florida and the quarterback has been the marquee addition of his tenure.

For his part, Lagway is making it count too. He has played extensively as a true freshman, first in concert with starting quarterback Graham Mertz, then on his own as the starter following a season-ending knee injury for Mertz.
Lagway has gone 56-of-92 passing for 1,071 yards and six touchdowns, against five interceptions. He has also run for 114 yards, showing dual threat ability, though it’s not something he necessarily leans on.
His deep ball precision has been some of the best in the country.
So DJ Lagway endorsing the retention of Napier is a significant plus for the embattled head coach.
Prior to enrolling at Florida, DJ Lagway was ranked as a five-star prospect and the No. 3 overall recruit in the country in the 2024 recruiting class. He was ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and the No. 1 overall player from the state of Texas, hailing from Willis (TX) Willis.
