WILLIS, Texas — DJ Lagway has been exceptional throughout his senior season, a trend four years in the making for the On3 Industry Ranking five-star quarterback leading into this go-round.

After accounting for six touchdowns, including four passing TD and two more on the ground, Lagway lifted his Willis (Texas) Wildkats to the program’s first-ever 10-win season and captured an outright district title. Those have been goals on Lagway’s mind during his underclassmen days coming to fruition amid a stellar senior season by the Florida commitment.

Lagway’s five-star skill set and leadership qualities lifted Willis High School to new heights never before seen this year.

“DJ is a special human being, a special talent, and I love the fact he plays for us,” Willis HC Trent Miller told On3. “There’s not a better QB in the nation. Put it on the record. What he’s had to overcome with health over the course of his high school career, the negative, people calling him overrated, critics … he never wavered. He was what he’s all about, and all the people doubting him … thank you, you only helped him be the player he is now. He’s a phenomenal human being and a special QB.”

Lagway overcame another injury scare amid pressure from five-star Georgia-committed LB Justin Williams playing spy on the quarterback throughout the evening.

Lagway delivered two scores in the fourth quarter and capped the regular season with 60 on the season. That includes 49 passing touchdowns and another 15 rushing.

“It’s a blessing. This has been the goal since freshmen year, so I’m excited to have this opportunity and do it with some amazing guys,” Lagway said after the game. “They definitely have a great defense, especially up front. Great competition. It was amazing to play against great players. (Justin and I) have been playing against each other since little league, so to get that last win in high school before college was great.”

Lagway is the face of the Gators’ 2024 recruiting class, which as of November checks in as No. 3 in the country, according to the On3 Industry Team Rankings.

Lagway has been a top target for Billy Napier and this staff since the jump. He’ll be in The Swamp come January.

“I’m excited to get there and learn from Coach Napier. He’s a helluva coach, and I can’t wait to get there and buy into his system,” Lagway said. “I like how he’s adapted to his QBs, using a different system for Anthony Richardson, now Graham Mertz, and fitting the QB into the right system.”

“We have a lot of great guys coming in,” he added on the Gators’ 2024 haul. “Might need a couple more pieces to make it perfect. It’s great guys right now and I can’t wait to get there and play with them.”
