Every time that Willis (Texas) five-star quarterback DJ Lagway takes the field, the Florida commit provides examples as to why he’s such a touted prospect.

On Saturday, he whipped up his latest highlight by uncorking a 50-yard touchdown pass in a tight game against The Woodlands. After rolling out to his right, Lagway opted not to step into his throw and instead just hop and spin as he let the ball out of his hand. It found his receiver with ease in the end zone.

Lagway has put together a stellar senior season, which has seen him record touchdown after touchdown on a weekly basis. Through his first seven games of the season, he completed 76 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,642 yards and 36 touchdowns.

“Lagway may be off to the hottest start among all 2024 quarterbacks,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote last month. “The 6-foot-2.5, 230-pounder has put together the best stretch of play of his high school career to date. … Perhaps most importantly, the film matches the numbers so far. Lagway has made some sensational individual plays with his arm and legs. He continues to look like the best off-platform passer in the cycle, but is also showing some improvement with his consistency from the pocket and operating within structure.”

Lagway is now the No. 20 overall prospect and No. 3 QB in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

In the latest On300 rankings, he checks in as the country’s No. 20 recruit and the No. 2 passer, behind only Alabama five-star commit Julian Sayin.

Lagway headlines the best Gators class in recent memory

He committed to Florida last December and is one of three five-stars pledged to the Gators, alongside McKinney (Texas) five-star safety Xavier Filsaime and Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland five-star defensive lineman LJ McCray.

“I knew on my last visit up there,” Lagway told On3 when he committed. “I had a really great time with my whole family with me. We all enjoyed it and I love what Coach Napier is doing up there in Gainesville and I’m excited to continue to see what he does.

… Florida checks all the boxes, from the depth chart and the way that Anthony Richardson played this season. I love the offense that Coach Napier brings to the table and I feel like I fit in perfectly in there like Anthony Richardson did last year. We play similarly and I know I can grow and develop as more of a player and a person off the field at Florida.”

Florida’s class is No. 3 in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking. Only Georgia and Ohio State are ahead of the Gators with the early signing period right around the corner.
