Flower Mound (Texas) quarterback Nick Evers has been solidly committed to Florida since March, but that hasn’t stopped programs from inquiring about him. Especially since the firing of head coach Dan Mullen.

Among those programs is Texas, which, according to On3 Senior National Recruiting Analyst Gerry Hamilton, “has quietly reached out over the last week or so.”

Evers is the No. 125 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s own rankings list him as the nation’s No. 66 prospect, No. 6 quarterback and No. 17 player in Texas.

And despite the overtures from the Longhorns, Evers is excited about the possibility of recently hired Gators head coach Billy Napier. Texas tried to get Evers to visit last weekend, but he declined without an offer, according to Hamilton. Texas already has a commitment from four-star Junipero Serra (Calif.) quarterback Maalik Murphy.

Notre Dame and Kansas State have both reached out to Evers as well, but right now, he’s scheduled to visit Florida on Dec. 11, just four days before the early signing period.

Nick Evers is a major building block of Florida’s 2022 class

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Evers was Florida’s second commit in the 2022 class. And as the only signal-caller committed, he’s a major foundational piece. Following Mullen’s firing, Evers said that he remains committed to Florida but would be keeping his options open.

“While I’m hopeful to have a role with (Florida), thus my staying verbally committed, it would be reckless not to understand options until a new coach is named,” Evers said. “I chose Florida for so many reasons other than football and those are still largely in place. I love Gator Nation and want to be here. My hope is that the new staff will have the same love for me and my family!”

Florida has already lost a pair of commits: four-stars Isaiah Bond and Jamarrien Burt. Keeping Evers — and the rest of the current class committed — will be priority No. 1 for Napier.
