Florida defeats Oklahoma State, punches ticket to Super Regionals
After forcing a winner-take-all regional championship game with a win over Oklahoma State on Sunday night, the Florida Gators struck again on Monday. Defeating the Cowboys 4-2 to take home the Stillwater Regional title and advance to the Super Regional for a second straight season under head coach Kevin O’Sullivan.
It was a collective effort for the Gators once again, who used three different pitchers on the mound to help secure the win and generated offense from a multitude of players. Including Jac Caglianone, who spoke about the game about the significance of Florida’s big win after the game.

“I mean, it means everything. I mean, I feel like I shouldn’t be the one wearing this headset,” Caglianone said. ” Fisher Jameson, Jake Clemente, Frank (Menendez), all these guys held their ground. We were asking for them to just go out and do their job and that’s exactly what they did. I’m just really grateful for this group of guys. Like you said ups and downs throughout the year, but honestly, none of that matters now in the postseason.”
The trio of Florida pitchers allowed just five hits on the day, striking out seven batters and allowing just two runs after holding Oklahoma State to two runs in their previous game on Sunday as well. As the Gators’ offense was able to get the job done once again thanks to a 2 RBI single from Ashton Wilson, an RBI single from Michael Robertson, and a solo homer from Tyler Shelnut to extend their lead in the sixth inning.

The Gators had to scratch and claw to even get to the postseason in the first place. Ending the regular season with two-straight wins over Georgia just to become eligible for the NCAA Tournament and looking like a different team ever since.
“We went into that weekend and we knew we had to do,” Caglianone said regarding their regular season finale with the Bulldogs. “We needed to get at least 13 team wins in conference play to have a shot to even be here. So luckily we did that and honestly the vibes just kind of switched and everybody was really amped up and enjoying themselves and kust having fun and playing baseball. We kind of got away from that for a little bit, but I think we found that spark once again and it shows today.
Florida will now look ahead to a matchup against Clemson, taking on the Tigers in a best two-of-three series in the Clemson Super Regional with the winner heading to the College World Series in Omaha.
