Florida will have quarterback Anthony Richardson available Saturday night at South Carolina, but the rookie sensation will only be used in an emergency situation.

Per Edgar Thompson of the Orland Sentinel, the Gators will role with Emory Jones as their starting quarterback. Richardson suffered a concussion in his first career start last week game against Georgia. He is feeling better, but he is not expected to play Saturday night in Columbia.

Jones entered the 34-7 loss to Georgia in the third quarter, finishing the game 10 of 14 for 112 yards. And on the ground, he added 22 yards on five attempts and the Gators’ lone touchdown of the game.

Since Richardson’s performance at LSU, Gators head coach Dan Mullen has been under pressure to make a switch at quarterback. He made the move ahead of the World’s Largest Cocktail Party, but that was put on hold with the freshman’s injury.

“His character, his work ethic, his demeanor is unbelievable,”  Mullen said earlier this week on how Jones handled the switch at quarterback. “You look at Saturday and very easily as a young guy you can sit there and say, ‘Hey, this is not exactly the situation that I was hoping to be in right now.’ That wasn’t his case at all.”

Tim Tebow addresses Dan Mullen job status, sends message to Florida fans

Florida Gators legendary quarterback Tim Tebow addressed his alma mater’s fanbase over the status of head coach Dan Mullen. The Gators headman has come under scrutiny after losing its last two games to rivals LSU and Georgia. On Friday’s Paul Finebaum show, Tebow shed some light on the Florida situation and gave his own perspective.

“I think, you hate to say patience, but a little bit of understanding with it. And that’s not necessarily many fans in the SEC understand is the building blocks,” Tebow said. “I think you could really look at it and say going into last week, Florida had a chance to be undefeated. Now they are 4-4, right, it looks drastically different. I think it is trying to step back and understand the why. Sometimes in the media they don’t explain why, they just look at the results.

“I think understanding the why — you’re really one play away from beating Alabama. You’re a field goal away from beating Kentucky. Four or five different plays from beating LSU.”
