WATCH: David Nelson recalls his Top 5 favorite moments with the Florida Gators
David Nelson is a Florida Gators legend, playing receiver during one of the program’s greatest ever stretches. During his time in Gainesville, Nelson won two national championships and played with the likes of quarterback Tim Tebow and under head coach Urban Meyer.
A truly special moment during Florida’s long history.
Nelson recently took the time to list his top five Gator moments while he was in school. He talked through each play and explained why they were special and what each meant to him.
You can watch the full video below.
Unsurprisingly, the top three all came from the national championship game in Jan. 2009, where Florida was able to defeat Oklahoma. Where there may be a bit more of a surprise is that the top two plays both came from the defensive side of the ball.
Nelson began with his own touchdown, catching a jump pass from Tebow. In total, the wide receiver finished with two receptions for 33 yards, plus his score near the goal line. Florida spent most of the night running the ball against the Sooners’ defense but Nelson was able to come in clutch when called upon.

“That was something incredibly special and something I will always remember,” Nelson said.
From there, he talked about the monster hit Major Wright put on Oklahoma wide receiver Manny Johnson. Then, his No. 1 overall moment was the interception from defensive back Ahmad Black off Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford. Nelson called it “one of the best interceptions” he’s ever seen.
For a guy who lived throughout a historic part of Florida’s history, Nelson has seen some of the all-time moments. Narrowing the list down to five had to be tough, especially since only one was considered personal. But when you win a national championship, those memories will live on forever.
