The Florida Gators have jumped out to an early lead against the Oklahoma Sooners in the regional round matchup. after a first inning where the Sooners retired the first three hitters with the use of the high fastball, the Gators hitters made the adjustment in the following inning resulting in 2 solo shot home runs.

The first was by right fielder Ty Evans who sent his over the left-field wall in a dazzling display of power. And after center fielder Jud Fabian was struck out, Designated hitter Jac Caglianone stepped up and smashed one right over the green wall and center field. Both homer runs can be seen below.

Despite jumping out to the early 2-0 lead, the Sooners have responded back with a huge inning of their own. In the third inning, Oklahoma hit two home runs of their own, one of which was a two-run shot, to take a 3-2 lead.

Sadly for the Gators, the Sooners would maintain the lead after taking it in the third inning and not look back. Oklahoma would score four runs in the third inning, including a two-run home run and a solo shot, followed by another score in the fourth. The Gators would go on to lose by a score of 9-4.

Up next for the Gators is an elimination game against Central Michigan, who the Gators beat in the opening game of the regional round 7-3. That game will take place on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET. And if the Gators can knock off the Chippewa’s for the second time in regionals, that will set up a rematch against the Sooners on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET. But for now, Florida must focus on the task at hand and take care of Central Michigan. Otherwise, it will be an early exit to what looked like a promising playoff run.
