Florida Gators left fielder Wyatt Langford, who’s off to an excellent start to the season behind the plate, showed his ability to get the job done in the field, too, making an epic home run-robbing catch against Florida State.

Florida, currently ranked as the No. 14 team in the country, is playing host to in-state rivals at Florida State on Tuesday, which ranks No. 5 in the country, and starting pitcher Nick Ficarrotta got into some trouble in the top of the third. With the score tied at one, Ficarrotta dealt the payoff pitch, and it was launched way into the outfield — thanks to Langford, though, the Gators escaped a sure-fire three-run home run.

Langford climbed up the fence — nearly making contact with the fans right behind him trying to catch the home run — and pulled the ball back in, stealing a home run in the process.

Langford is having quite a productive season behind the plate, too, as the sophomore outfielder is currently leading all Florida Gators with a .360 batting average, one that could well see him picked to an All-SEC team, if he keeps it up. Langford is 32-for-89 through 24 games, while maintaining a 1.166 OPS; he’s hit three doubles, a triple and nine home runs, and he’s also notched a team-leading 26 runs batted in. He’s emerging as a five-tool players for the Gators in Gainesville, as Langford has gotten the job done behind the plate, flashed the leather in the field and leads the team in stolen bases, with five swipes in six attempts.
