The Florida baseball team has had a tough season and it’s about to get a little tougher. Second baseman Cade Kurland will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

The news comes courtesy of Baseball America’s Jacob Rudner. According to Florida Victorious’ Nick de la Torre, Kurland will have surgery on the shoulder. Kurland initially suffered the injury in a series against Miami early in the season.

He had since tried to return to the lineup multiple times, albeit in a relatively limited capacity. He initially made his return on March 18 against Jacksonville.

But Cade Kurland didn’t play long. He did not record an at-bat in the game, drawing one walk before exiting the contest after tweaking his shoulder. Coach Kevin O’Sullivan provided an update at the time.

“Yeah, I think he’s OK,” O’Sullivan said. “Like I said last night, the most important thing is it didn’t pop back out. So, we’ve got a couple of guys who’ll throw live to him tomorrow, and we’ll see how it feels.

“Obviously, if (Cade Kurland’s shoulder popped out), it’d be a totally different situation. I just saw him grimace a little bit on the second swing, and there’s no sense of pushing it right there… Maybe it was just a little bit too soon.”

He then played against Georgia in the series finale on March 23. He saw two at-bats and drew a walk, recording an RBI. He’d make one more appearance.

Finally, Kurland tried to play in the team’s midweek game against rival Florida State on March 25. He had two at-bats and two walks, once again recording an RBI. But the shoulder continued to bother him.

Cade Kurland missed the team’s subsequent series against Ole Miss over the weekend. And upon further medical evaluation, the decision was made to shut him down for the year.

On the season, Kurland had a .316 batting average. He had knocked in 15 RBI, while recording two doubles and three home runs. He had also drawn 10 walks on the season.
