Florida lands coveted transfer commitment from Kyle Lofton
Todd Golden just came through with a big-time add to the Florida Gators roster, picking up a coveted transfer commitment on Friday. Former St. Bonaventure point guard Kyle Lofton is heading to Florida, and he has signed with the Gators, the school announced..
Lofton has been at St. Bonaventure since the 2018-2019 season. In his four-year collegiate career, he has played in 116 games, all of which have been starts. Lofton is averaging 13.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.6 steals in his collegiate career so far. He is a career 42.1% shooter, including a 30.3% clip from three-point range. Lofton is also 82% in his career from the free throw line.
Lofton originally entered the transfer portal on April 28. He is the 27th-rated player to enter the portal during this cycle, according to On3’s portal rankings.
Florida’s roster has undergone a lot of changes since Golden took over for former head coach Mike White, but the addition of Lofton is a big one for the Gators. He was an All-Atlantic 10 selection in each of the past three years, and led the Bonnies to the NCAA Tournament in 2021.
Golden on Florida’s addition of Lofton
As he continues building his program at Florida, Golden’s ability to pick up players like Lofton will be pivotal. Getting him out of the portal is a great sign, and Lofton should play a big role for Florida right away.

In the school’s release on Friday, Golden expressed his excitement to be adding Lofton to the roster.
“We are excited to bring Kyle into our program here at Florida,” Golden said. “Kyle has experienced a lot of success both from a team and individual standpoint during his time at St. Bonaventure. He’s a proven winner and leader. He makes others around him better and cares only about one thing: winning.”
Florida went 20-14 last season, including a 9-9 mark against SEC opponents in the regular season. The Gators lost in the second round of the NIT Tournament.
