On Tuesday, Florida basketball released its non-conference schedule for the 2024-25 season. The campaign will be head coach Todd Golden‘s third year at the helm of the Gators.

Expectations are high for Florida after the program posted a 24-12 record and an 11-7 mark in conference play last season. While Florida ultimately fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, it made a statement when it reached the SEC Tournament championship game.

The team added three transfers during the offseason and will return a boatload of talent. Most notably, Florida will run it back with All-SEC selection Walter Clayton Jr., who averaged a team-high 17.6 points per game last season while shooting 36.5% from beyond the arc.

SEC considering 20 league games in 2025-26 season

The Gators should enjoy their non-conference schedule while they can. The SEC is considering expanding to a 20-game conference basketball schedule, according to multiple reports. The conference currently uses an 18-game model.

If the change were to come, it would be after the 2024-25 college basketball season, sources tell college basketball analyst Jon Rothstein

The SEC expanded to 16 teams earlier this month with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma from the Big 12 Conference. To compensate for the additional programs, two added games per season seems like the most logical way to go if there were to be a change. However, Rothstein’s source said that it’s “too early,” to tell either way.

The ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, and Big East all play 20 league games per season, meaning the SEC is the only power conference that plays 18 in-conference matchups.

In 2012, when the league added Missouri and Texas A&M, the SEC used two years of temporary scheduling to tinker with a more permanent scheduling rotation. It remains to be seen how the conference will execute in the same situation 12 years later.
