For the first time this season, Auburn fans saw their team lose at home. The Jungle has become one of college basketball’s best environments and toughest places to play but Florida did not show any fear on Saturday. A big upset for the Gators to continue their excellent season.

Neville Arena’s tunnel to the visiting locker room is right in the middle of the student section. As Florida players were walking off the court, they decided to trash-talk those Auburn supporters. A heavy dose of boos was heading their way too.

Some goodbye waves took place and most likely, some words exchanged. Thankfully, nothing went over the top. Just the emotions of winning a big game on the road and letting the opposing crowd know about it afterward.

Putting into perspective how good Auburn has been this season — the Tigers were 10-0 in Neville Arena heading into Saturday afternoon. Outside of Tennessee, teams were not playing them close either. Nine of those wins have been by at least 16 points. Blowouts can occur in quick fashion, just ask Oklahoma from Tuesday’s 28-point loss.

The winning streak extends into last season too. Auburn closed the year with wins against Mississippi State and Georgia in Neville Arena. Before Florida, John Calipari‘s Kentucky was the last team to beat Auburn at home on Feb. 17, 2024 — nearly a year ago.

The job Bruce Pearl has done with Auburn is well documented but becoming unbeatable at home is one of the more impressive accomplishments of his tenure.

On the flip, true road games have been an area where Florida has slipped this year. Two of the three losses have been in another team’s arena, losing to Kentucky and Tennessee. Todd Golden had to be looking for a signature win away from home and certainly got it against the No. 1 team in the country.

Celebrations were always going to take place but it played out a little on the court. A back-and-forth contest ended with Florida having some fun with the home crowd.

Auburn fans will have to wait for a little while before getting the bad taste out of their mouth. They will not be back inside Neville Arena until Feb. 19 vs. Arkansas as two consecutive road games (Vanderbilt and Alabama) are next on the schedule. Big times ahead for the Tigers in hostile environments.
