Unfortunate news came out of Gainesville on Monday morning when reports surfaced that Florida quarterback Graham Mertz would miss the remainder of the 2024 season. Suffering from a torn ACL injury on Saturday against Tennessee that sidelined him in the third quarter and will do so for the remainder of his sixth college season.

Mertz took to Instagram on Monday following the news. Writing a message to the Florida fans who have supported him during his two seasons in The Swamp that can be seen below.

“Gator Nation, thank you for two incredible years in Gainesville,” Mertz wrote. “Unfortunately, I suffered a torn ACL against Tennessee and will miss the remainder of the season. During my recovery, I will remain a part of the program and do whatever I can in meeting rooms and from the sideline to help my teammates win. I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support during this time.”

On Saturday Mertz found Arlis Boardingham on a 13-yard touchdown pass to give the Gators a 10-0 lead on the road in Knoxville. But after completing the pass, went to the ground and limped to the sideline despite being untouched on the play. A non-contact injury that would end up being a torn ACL for the Florida starting quarterback.

“Graham Mertz has torn his ACL and he will be done for the season,” head coach Billy Napier said. “He’ll have surgery next week, and I think it’s only right for me to say how much I appreciate and am thankful for Graham, in terms of all that he has brought to the table to our team. Not only his production on the field but also just his impact on the team as a whole, his leadership, the work ethic, the example, the self discipline.

Mertz joined the Gators ahead of the 2023 season after spending the first four years of his college career at Wisconsin. Starting in 32 games for the Badgers and 14 for the Gators with 9,099 passing yards and 64 touchdowns in a college career that will likely now be coming to an abrupt end.
